Old Orleans review by Dave Clarke
Having travelled extensively throughout the Southern States of the US i have been fortunate to dine at many eateries with the majority serving excellent food coupled with the almost legendary southern hospitality. Having returned to the cooler cilmes of Rotherham i decided to take my wife out hopefully for a true taste of the South.
Shade disappointed if the truth be told. Regarding my own food the quesidias starter was very tasty and promised great things to come. However, the jambalaya proved a little lame. I can remember receiving my jambalaya on so many occasions and thinking wow this is going to be sensational. Here, i thought "well, i can really make this better myself". Haing said that maybe the comparison to well established restaurants with experienced chefs in the Louisiana area is unfair.
The atmosphere was a little flat. The restaurant was not well patronised. Although this was undoubtedly mainly due to being told when we arrived that only one chef had turned up and that we had better order fairly quickly.
The service we received was very good with a friendly waitress happy to impart her knowledge regarding the cocktail list.
Finally, i would have to say value for money is no better than fair. The food is certainly not bad. However, i doubt you would be inspired to try some Cajun cooking yourself and i suspect a quick return visit would not be in the forefront of your mind.
