Mama's & Leonies

We visited Mamas & leonies on Satutaday evening, half of our party were Italian so this seemed a perfect place to eat!!!!
HOW WRONG COULD WE HAVE BEEN, this has to be the worst Italian restaurant I and my guests have ever eaten in. To say the food is Italian is an insult, we began our meal with antipasta, this came in a bowl which is a first! full of salad and chopped salami, really really bad when we asked for olive oil the waitress looked at us as if we were speaking a different language.
we then ordered our main course and asked the waitress if the vongole was fresh, she replied that Yes the mussels were fresh, Mussels???? oh well we ordered anyway.
then the food came 4 pasta dishes all different, but all served with the same disgusting tomatoe base. The King prawns were the smallest frozen prawns I have ever seen, the Canneloni and Lasagne were tasteless and the Vongole what can I say, my Italian guests look on in horror!!!!!
I requested to see the manager before we left, whom approached our table with the most unprofessional manner I have ever seen, she was aggresive and rude, now I understand having worked in various restaurants that complaints can be a pain but surely listen to your customers because people do talk about bad experiences, this could have been resolved at the restaurant, but the manager had a clear problem with anybody having any form of complaint.

July 2010. I dined at mamma's on Saturday night with my partner sister and brother in law. From the outside Mamma's is neighboorhood italian and inside it doesn't disappoint oozing with old school italian charm.
We received a wonderful warm welcome from all the staff we came into contact with. First up we chose our drinks from the specials board, a bottle of Negro italian red at 10.95 outstanding value. The wine was proper quaffing wine and so good we ordered another.
starters we ordered picante ribs ( mamma's special) and tomatoe and garlic pizza bread. Excellent!
main course was Pizza's for the boys and a side salad to share. The girls piccante ribs and a mamas non fattening burgar. My pizza diane was outstanding even epic and better than any other pizza i have eaten anywhere including Italy!
We shared one pudding a fruits of the summer creme brulee which we all tasted and enjoyed. We finished off with large espresso's. fantastic evening proper neighboorhood italian, authentic, fantastic venue lucky Sheffield wish we had access to Mamma's in St Alban's

Myself and my family had the most enjoyable evening at mamas celebrating my birthday. We experienced a very warm welcome and excellent service. The food was fantastic value for money and it was most pleasing to find home cooked food in the city centre (not from a packet)!!
The wine flowed and we enjoyed hearing the stories about famous visitors from the waitress.
Overall a fantastic evening, keep it up we will be back.

We recently ate at the sheffield pizzeria, and wish to let you know how disappointed we were with quality of food and servce. Upon seated we ordered tomato garlic pizza, good but disappointed to be given "plastic" parmesan. Upon receipt of main course asked if there was any proper parmesan, and was told that you do not serve this. The front of house waitress, came across to ask if all was o.k. we expressed our opinion and was curtly informed that " you do not service parmesan reggannio because it is too expensive and you are only a pizzeria. I pointed out that literature about natural, fresh produce and was told if we were unhappy to write to head office. During our meal we had listened to the same person, agrue with another customer because he said that the calzone was a bit bland, after said customer left proceeded to discuss his views openly with all members of staff, and customers. I said this to the waitress and she was adamant upon presenting me with a card, I declined and asked her to respect that i was still eating my meal. It is a shame that the customer service is not better at dealing with "customers" I pointed out that we had eaten our meal listening to her pull down the customer and I said it was no point having an opinion because she was unwilling to listen.

I went to this restaurant a couple of weeks ago, as the atmosphere was really nice, but I think that the first review on this page is actually a pretty fair description of the food we were served: it was not good. The antipasti consisted of a bowl of shredded lettuce, what looked like shop-bought salami, a few olives, and shellfish out of a jar, but this was edible compared to the pizza we were served afterwards, which was burnt and the size of a very small side-plate for about £9 per pizza. It definitely looked like it had been made out of supermarket pizza-bases, toppings, etc.
I sent mine back, and said I did not want another one making as it was too off-putting, and they then tried to charge us for it. When we said we would not pay for it as I hadn't eaten it and it had put me off anything else from that restaurant, the 'chefs' started to make really rude comments in the background about how this wasn't pizza hut. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone.
